Abstract

Pursose: The purpose of this study was to develop the tool to measure the state of crisis for early adolescent. Method: A literature review, concept analysis, subjects interview, item analysis, and review by a team of experts were conducted. Throughout above procedures, the questions in this tool could be winnowed down to 19 questions of crisis behavior and 5 questions regarding consciousness of crisis. The validity and reliability of the questions were tested by surveying 135 junior high school students at 2 schools. Result: Factor Analysis revealed four factors associated with crisis behaviors; namely emotional, daily life, behavioral, and cognitive responses to crises. The total explained variance from these factors was 57.8%, and consciousness of crisis as one factor had a total explained variance of 58.8%. The reliability test of this study showed Chronbach¢¥s a of total items to be 0.901, Chronbach¢¥s a of factor-by-factor ranged from 0.660 to 0.839 for crisis behavior. The Chronbach¢¥s a for the consciousness of crisis resulted in 0.819. Conclusion: The tool developed in this study would be useful in measuring the state of crisis for early adolescent objectively and also quickly.
